"This is incredibly easy! I just tried Sora for the first time and I was amazed."
The new AI video generation platform from OpenAI is user-friendly, powerful, and currently experiencing high demand.
The recent arrival of Sora, OpenAI's new AI-driven video generation platform, has marked a milestone in audiovisual creation. This launch, which took place on Monday, introduces simple tools that allow users to generate surprisingly realistic videos in almost an instant. During a brief hands-on experience, it became clear that Sora has the potential to revolutionize the video production process.
Sora is distinct enough to have its own website, Sora.com, separate from the ChatGPT language model. Users must access the platform with a ChatGPT Plus account, allowing for up to 50 video generations per month, or through a Pro account, which offers unlimited generation. To get started, it was necessary to provide my date of birth.
Upon entering the page, I was greeted with a grid of content generated by other users. This is an excellent way to find inspiration and appreciate the incredible quality of the videos that can be created. I had the option to use any of those clips as a base for my own creation through a "Remix" feature.
However, I decided to create an entirely new video. At the bottom of the page, I found a field where I could describe the desired video and set various parameters, such as aspect ratio, resolution, duration, and the number of options Sora would offer. There were also style buttons that included options like "Balloon World," "Stop Motion," and "Film Noir." I chose a simple concept: a middle-aged man building a spaceship near the ocean under a moonlit sky, with a campfire and a friendly dog nearby.
After adjusting my initial request, Sora started working, and in about a minute, I received two five-second video options. One of the clips was unsettling due to a golden retriever that had an extra tail instead of a head, but the other video was quite close to what I had imagined, although the spaceship was a model and not something the character could pilot.
After selecting the right option, I was able to edit my prompt and make a new attempt, consult the video storyboard, mix it with another clip, or create a remix. I opted for the video with the normal dog and performed a remix, asking for the spaceship to be larger and to appear behind the protagonist. The process took about five minutes, resulting in a beautiful video that, although Sora doesn’t have knowledge about space travel, managed to capture the desired composition.
Despite my attempts to create more, access was limited due to capacity issues on Sora's servers. I also tried the Storyboard feature, which allows you to add different elements to a video, but I encountered capacity restrictions again.
Even with the server-related inconveniences, Sora proves to be a radical change in the video creation industry. Not only for its rapid generation of videos from simple instructions but also for the variety of editing and creation tools it presents from day one. It is expected that this platform will continue to evolve, becoming more powerful and better adapting to the needs of content creators.
