They create a transparent iPhone 16 Pro that looks spectacular.

Apple doesn't usually take many risks with its designs, but if you've dreamed of a transparent case iPhone, it already exists. However, its production is quite complicated.

In recent years, transparent aesthetics have taken center stage in the technological realm. Devices such as smartphones, headphones, handheld consoles, and laptops have joined this trend, although Apple has remained on the sidelines. However, this hasn't deterred some enthusiasts who, armed with the right tools and a bit of courage, venture to disassemble an expensive iPhone to give it a transparent touch.

Recently, a project led by Phone Repair Guru has transformed the back of the iPhone 16 Pro, which is typically made of glass with a frosted finish, into a transparent design feat. Before detailing what this boldly designed model looks like, it's important to note that the process is incredibly complex. From disassembling the phone to reattaching a transparent case without damaging essential parts, it presents a considerable challenge.

While it may seem like a simple replacement task, the reality is much more intricate. The glass back of the iPhone includes multiple important components, such as the wireless charging coil. The end result—if one dared to attempt it—could be an iPhone 16 Pro that would stand out in the market thanks to its refreshed appeal.

The process begins with heating the phone to remove the graphite paper, which already seems painful. The most difficult part is disconnecting the wireless charging coil from the glass, a procedure that is not easily done. According to the video, a combination of heat, additional adhesives, and a MagSafe piece is required to accomplish this without damaging the cables.

Those responsible for this transformation immersed the glass back panel of the iPhone in acid for three days, then sanded down the aluminum plate underneath the glass and treated it with gallium, a metal that is liquid at room temperature. This liquid metal weakens the aluminum cover to the point where it can be easily removed with a knife. The entire process is extremely messy and requires a hot water bath to remove the residue.

The final stage of the procedure requires manual dexterity. A thick blade is used to remove the paint from the glass of the iPhone 16 Pro, much like an artisan would with a softwood block. Once the case achieves its final transparent look, the adventure culminates with the careful reinstallation of components such as the charging coil and elements near the camera module. Fortunately, at the end of this complicated task, nothing was broken, and functions such as the camera remained intact.

It is important to emphasize that this type of modification is not recommended for attempting at home, as despite Apple's improvements in repairability and user-friendly design, the underlying engineering of these phones remains too complicated for the average person. Additionally, the cost of the necessary tools to carry out this modification can amount to several hundred dollars. However, if you feel that you can't shake the look of a transparent iPhone 16 Pro, there are many transparent skins available online, including some interesting options from Dbrand.
