The YouTube app on Quest will allow you to watch videos with friends in virtual reality.

It is only possible to view 2D content jointly.

The YouTube app on Meta Quest is receiving an interesting update that allows users to watch videos together. Now, in addition to enjoying content individually, users can co-watch videos with up to seven additional people.

To activate this option, which is currently in beta, users must have the latest version of the YouTube app. They will need to look for the "Co-watch" icon, located at the top of the screen, which features three people together. By selecting it, a window will appear where users can choose to "Invite people," allowing them to invite followers to join the viewing. It’s important to note that those invited must also follow the session host.

However, there are some limitations. For example, the co-viewing feature is only available for 2D content. Additionally, if users want to watch paid content, such as a movie, each person participating in the co-viewing must make their own payment. Despite these restrictions, this new feature offers an entertaining way to socialize in virtual reality, especially for those who prefer not to interact in environments like Horizon Worlds. Moreover, it could feel less awkward compared to Apple’s Spatial Personas for the Vision Pro.
