In Smite 2, each role has a specific function in every match, ensuring that everyone plays a unique part in the progression of the game. Here is what you need to know about each of these roles.

Smite 2 retains the essence that made the original Smite popular, keeping most of the gameplay mechanics and design philosophies that characterize it. However, this new installment has modified the functioning of roles, moving away from the original class design in favor of a more flexible system that allows any god to be used in any role, as long as they are built and played appropriately. Although certain gods are more suited for specific roles, the creative freedom offered by this flexibility can be very rewarding for both new players and returning ones. Below are the roles in Smite 2.

Solo
The Solo role consists of characters specialized for the Solo lane, which is a one-on-one matchup. The goal here is to quickly clear minion waves while dealing maximum damage to the opponent. To survive the rival's attacks, it is advisable to opt for a Bruiser-type build that combines offensive and defensive items. Counteracting the opponent's choices is essential, as there will be a constant back-and-forth to force the enemy out of lane and attack their tower. As the game progresses, the player will take on a front-line role alongside the Support to help control the flow of team fights. A recommended god for beginners is Chaac, who offers low-cooldown abilities, good wave-clear capability, and a powerful area-of-effect ultimate that is easy to hit and temporarily silences enemies.

Jungle
The Jungle role is one of the most challenging to master in Smite 2, as it involves rotating around the map and knowing when to assist teammates. This role is ideal for those who prefer a more aggressive playstyle, ambushing enemy players from any of the three lanes. However, it’s not just about killing opponents; it’s also crucial to farm the jungle camps quickly and consistently. If camps are not cleared or are lost to the enemy Jungler, you will fall behind in levels, making things harder for the team. Learning to play in the jungle can take time, but once mastered, it can turn the tide of a game in seconds. Thor is a recommended god for beginners, providing an easy-to-hit stun and a straightforward kit that deals great damage, in addition to his ultimate ability, which allows him to cover great distances to catch unsuspecting opponents.

Middle
The Middle role is one of the most significant in a Conquest match, as the middle lane serves as a convergence point for major team fights. The objective here is to clear the lane quickly and keep the opponent pressured towards their tower, allowing the team to use that lane to move between others without fear of retaliation. Winning the middle lane can be decisive, as it affects the flow of the game, bringing both teams to the center of the map for a large-scale fight that could result in a deicide if the team plays well. In the final phase of the game, this could provide the opportunity to take down the enemy titan and close out the match. Kukulkan is a recommendable god for newcomers, as he has excellent wave-clearing abilities, a slow attack, and an ultimate ability that deals significant damage. His mobility skill also allows him to enter and exit fights with agility.

Support
The Support role is precisely that: to support the team and create opportunities for success. At the start of matches, you will begin in the Duo lane with your Carry, but as the game progresses and your partner clears the lane on their own, you should move around the map to assist others. Support gods usually have abilities that immobilize or displace enemies, allowing their team to deal large amounts of damage. Depending on the god, it may also be necessary to assist with healing or abilities that enhance the team’s stats. Your role as a Support is not to achieve the highest damage at the end of the match, but your contribution is equally crucial for the team's success. Khepri is a recommended god for new players, offering many control opportunities through an easy-to-execute stun and grab, as well as an ultimate ability that can save him or another player from death.

Carry
The Carry role is designed to provide your team with a powerful damage dealer that can lead to victory in the late game. Your goal is to start in the Duo lane alongside a Support and work towards getting a few early kills while farming the lane. For most of the early game, you will not be extremely powerful, but your damage will increase rapidly after building three to four items, allowing you to actively participate in team fights and quickly eliminate opponents. All this damage will facilitate taking down objectives, making you a vital component of the team's strategy from around the 15-20 minute mark onward, as they work together with you to dismantle opponents. Cupid is a recommended god for beginners, as he can provide healing to himself and others, has a mobility skill to escape quickly, and can deal solid damage with normal attacks. His large area-of-effect ultimate can even slow down enemies, generating opportunities for significant damage.
