Satechi has introduced an updated version of its Trio wireless charging dock, which boosts the charging power for smartphones to 15W thanks to an improved Qi2 charger. This new Satechi Qi2 Trio wireless charging dock also offers 5W fast charging support for the Apple Watch, accommodating Series 7, 8, and 9 models, as well as both versions of the Ultra.
Made from a mix of aluminum, vegan leather, and soft silicone to prevent scratches on devices, the charging dock is available starting today on the Satechi website for $129.99. This new model is priced $10 more than the original version, but besides potentially faster charging times, Satechi has incorporated design improvements.
Devices connected to the dock can remain completely flat while charging. In the previous model, the Apple Watch charger could be tilted upward for nightstand mode, but it placed all other devices at a fixed angle, leaving smartphones nearly flat. In this new version, the improved Qi2 charger is attached to an adjustable arm that now allows the phone to be raised while charging, enabling features such as the iPhone's StandBy mode when positioned horizontally.
Both the smartphone and Apple Watch angles can be adjusted, making it easier to use alarm clock modes. While the dock seems more suited for a desk or nightstand, Satechi mentions that it is also useful for travel, as it only requires a USB-C cable and its included 45W adapter. However, this new version of the Trio is slightly thicker and heavier than the previous one.
