The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip Fan Edition Could Use an Exynos Chip: Expected Specifications.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip FE will be an affordable option in the foldable phone market.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip foldable models have been the subject of rumors for some time. These FE versions tend to be more affordable alternatives to flagship models. While it seems that Samsung has no intentions of launching a Z Fold FE, it is reported that a Galaxy Z Flip FE is in development. An insider on X, formerly known as Jukanlosreve, has shared details about the processor that will power Samsung's first Galaxy Z Flip FE. During a recent third-quarter earnings call, an executive from the company hinted at the arrival of an affordable foldable phone designed to attract a broader audience. Both the Galaxy Z Fold FE and Z Flip FE are expected to feature versions equipped with Exynos processors, specifically targeting the Exynos 2200.
According to the insider, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip FE will be fitted with the Exynos 2400 processor, the same chip that powers the Galaxy S24 series. If this information turns out to be correct, it would be surprising for a mid-range FE model to have such a powerful processor. However, since the Z Flip FE is set to launch next year, the Exynos 2400 will be around a year and a half old, which could make it more reasonable for the device.
An additional report indicates that the upcoming affordable foldable smartphone in development will be equipped with the Exynos 2400 chip, the same processor found in the Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus models. For those who are unaware, Samsung's Galaxy FE devices stand out by offering scaled-down specifications and features at a more accessible price compared to their flagship counterparts. The Z Flip FE will allow Samsung to compete in the low-cost clamshell foldable phone market.
Recently, an insider suggested that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will feature an Exynos 2500 SoC. This would represent a shift in Samsung's strategy, as its foldable devices have traditionally used Qualcomm's flagship Snapdragon chip across all markets. To reduce costs, Samsung might make some adjustments to the FE edition, such as a base model with less storage capacity, less RAM, and a smaller cover display compared to the premium version. It’s also possible that the camera system will be simplified to keep the price more affordable.
