The promotional prices of YouTube Premium will no longer be available for more users.
The pricing period for early adopters is coming to an end worldwide.
YouTube Premium users with legacy plans will experience a subscription increase in several regions. In December, the platform notified US subscribers on legacy plans, which come from discontinued services like Google Play Music or YouTube Red, that they will have to pay the new monthly price of $13.99 starting next year.
Additionally, YouTube Music users in Europe have shared emails informing them of a similar price increase. Some of them have indicated that they will receive three additional months at the current price before the increase takes effect.
Paul Pennington, YouTube's communication manager, confirmed that prices are rising for both YouTube Premium, which removes ads from streaming videos and offers access to the music service, and the standalone YouTube Music plans. The price update will affect both new and existing subscribers in countries such as Bulgaria, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Estonia, Spain, Finland, Greece, Guatemala, Honduras, Kuwait, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Latvia, Puerto Rico, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Uruguay, and Turkey. Those who originally signed up through Google Play and enjoyed early adoption pricing will also receive three additional months at the current cost.
A user on Reddit mentioned that they were on a legacy plan from Google Play Music, which started before the launch of YouTube Music in 2014, then with a monthly rate of $7.99 in the US. Now, their monthly fee as a subscriber in Spain will increase from €7.99 to €10.99, although this price is still lower than that of new subscribers to the individual music subscription, which stands at €12.99.
