The prices of Arlo's monthly subscriptions increase again.
Arlo's subscriptions have grown significantly in recent years.
Arlo has decided to increase the cost of its Arlo Secure cloud storage plan for smart home cameras once again. Currently, the price is $9.99 per month for recording storage from a single camera, an increase from the previous $7.99. For unlimited cameras, the cost has risen to $19.99 per month, up from the $17.99 that was charged before. Additionally, both plans have changed their names; they are now known as Secure Plus instead of Arlo Secure.
The new budget plan of $9.99 is more than three times the previous monthly cost of $2.99 that Arlo charged for cloud storage for a single camera. This price was first increased to $4.99 at the beginning of 2023, and then to $7.99 last year. If opting for annual payment, the plan for one camera remains at $7.99 per month, while the unlimited plan translates to an effective cost of $17.99 per month when paying upfront for a year.
This price increase comes after the company announced a new series of AI-driven features in September. These options include the ability to name people or vehicles that the camera detects and receive notifications about them, as well as training the cameras to recognize and notify certain events, such as the activation of a sprinkler or the opening of a garage door. The storage duration for recordings has also been expanded, now keeping them for 60 days, an increase from the previous 30 days.
Some users have had the opportunity to retain their previous rate by switching to an annual plan, according to a screenshot shared in a specific forum. Additionally, users can continue to enjoy free storage using Arlo base stations and compatible SmartHub devices with their cameras. However, this option involves giving up certain exclusive features for subscribers that make smart cameras more appealing, such as package detection.
