Polestar has revealed new details about the pricing and range of the rear-wheel drive (RWD) version of its Polestar 3 SUV, which began deliveries to customers earlier this month. This single-motor RWD model will be the most affordable and longest-range option of the electric vehicle, with a starting price of $68,900 (which includes a $1,400 shipping fee) and an EPA-rated range of 350 miles. The long-range single-motor version will be produced alongside the dual-motor all-wheel drive variant at the company’s plant in South Carolina.

With that starting price and its manufacturing in North America, the RWD Polestar 3 is expected to qualify for the federal tax credit of $7,500 for electric vehicles, provided that it remains in effect. The eligibility requirements for this incentive include that SUVs cost less than $80,000, are produced in North America, and that their batteries and components come from U.S.-approved business partners. On the other hand, the AWD version of the Polestar 3 starts at $74,800, offering up to 315 miles of range per charge in the standard model and 279 miles in the Performance model.

Polestar, which was initially backed by Volvo and is now overseen by Geely, the Chinese owner of Volvo, first announced the Polestar 3 model in October 2022. The company noted that all versions of the Polestar 3 will come standard with the Pilot Pack, which includes driver assistance features such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, automated lane changes, and a heads-up display. It's worth mentioning that, typically, automakers charge an additional cost for these features.

The Polestar 3 is positioned as the sportier version of the Volvo EX90, which also began deliveries to customers this year. However, much of the technology from that model, such as the Lidar sensor and bidirectional charging, is still not available for buyers.
