The OffGrid rescue device by HMD is a satellite device that can be carried on a keychain.

HMD introduced a rescue device at this year's CES called OffGrid, which uses satellite technology. This small device can be attached to a keychain and allows users to send emergency signals.

At the recent CES event, HMD unveiled a satellite-based rescue device called OffGrid. This small emergency gadget is designed to ensure the safety of outdoor enthusiasts while exploring remote areas. The OffGrid operates using the L-band satellite radio spectrum, allowing users to connect directly with satellites, even in the planet's most challenging environments.

One of the device's features is the ability to send text messages via a companion app, as well as send safety signals to friends and loved ones. It also enables users to contact emergency services and share their location. This portable device is compatible with keychains and has a durability rating in accordance with MIL-STD 810H. Furthermore, it offers an impressive three-day battery life and weighs only 60 grams.

The cost of the OffGrid is affordable, reaching $200, but it should be noted that a subscription is required to access many of its advanced features. The Unlimited Plan costs $15 per month and includes unlimited text messages and logs, as well as SOS services. There is a real-time tracking option available for an additional $5 monthly fee. On the other hand, the Freedom Plan requires an annual payment of $80 and allows for 350 text messages and unlimited logs, although real-time tracking is charged at $0.10 per ping.

The OffGrid device is expected to be available throughout this month in the United States, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, with plans to expand to more territories during the year.
