The NTSB Selects Elon Musk's Platform X to Inform the Press About Airplane Accidents.
The NTSB is opting for X instead of emails.
The National Transportation Safety Board has decided that it will only provide updates on aviation accidents in Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia through its account on X, excluding email communication. This announcement was made on Saturday, where the agency stated that it will use its @NTSB_Newsroom account to share relevant information, including press conferences and investigation details.
In order to better manage the large number of inquiries received, the NTSB also communicated that journalists should direct their questions to mediarelations@ntsb.gov, stating that they have historically used Twitter/X to inform about the timing and locations of press conferences. However, no clear explanation was provided as to why they have chosen to rely solely on a private social media platform.
At the same time, the U.S. Department of Defense has decided to exclude major media outlets such as NBC News, The New York Times, NPR, and Politico from its workspace in the Pentagon. According to reports, the DoD is implementing a "media rotation program" that will instead integrate media outlets with a conservative leaning, such as One America News Network, the New York Post, and Breitbart. This rotation will also include HuffPost, despite not having an assigned correspondent at the Pentagon.
Additionally, the Trump administration is turning its attention to media networks through the Federal Communications Commission, which has ordered investigations into NPR and PBS in relation to their financial sponsors.
