The Notepad is modernizing and leaving behind its reputation as the worst Windows program.
Microsoft has begun testing a new artificial intelligence feature for Notepad, which has the capability to summarize sections of text documents.
Notepad, an iconic application within the Windows ecosystem, has been characterized by its simplicity. Although it initially seemed like straightforward software, allowing users to write and view plain text, this is about to change. Microsoft has begun testing a new artificial intelligence feature that will allow users to summarize texts in Notepad documents. This feature corresponds to version 11.2501.29.0 of the application, which is currently being rolled out to Windows Insiders, those who participate in Microsoft’s early access program.
The functionality of this feature is quite intuitive: users just need to select a portion of text, right-click, and choose the Summarize option, or simply press Ctrl + M. This will generate a summary of the selected text, with the option to adjust its length according to the user's convenience. For those who do not wish to use this function, there is the option to disable it from the Notepad settings. However, it is important to mention that, like other AI-based features in Windows 11, a sign-in with a personal Microsoft account will be required to enjoy this option.
This addition complements the rewriting feature introduced last year, where users can modify sentences or fragments to different lengths and styles. With these tools, it is expected to be easier for users to adjust the content of their documents according to their needs, whether to simplify or elaborate on the text.
Furthermore, this Notepad update incorporates the Recent Files feature in the File menu, making it easier to recover previously used documents. Similar to the summarizing function, users can opt to disable this option if they prefer not to see the list of recently opened files.
