The next update for PS5 Pro of Alan Wake 2 will include a 4K ray tracing mode.
Alan Wake 2 will feature enhanced graphics on PS5 Pro and will receive a free anniversary update on October 22.
Today marks five days before the first anniversary of Alan Wake 2, and the developers at Remedy Entertainment have shared exciting news for players. Those interested in acquiring the game for PS5 Pro will be able to enjoy enhanced Quality and Performance modes. Additionally, a free anniversary update promises numerous improvements and "cheats."
The Remedy team has thoroughly explored the enhancements for PS5 Pro, though we will summarize the information here. Both modes, Quality and Performance, utilize Sony's PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) scaling method. This allows the Quality mode to achieve a 4K output resolution, while the rendering resolution is set to 2,176 x 1,224. Ray-traced reflections are enabled, but the FPS rate is capped at 30. Meanwhile, the Performance mode is also presented in 4K, albeit with a rendering resolution of 1,536 x 864, and it lacks ray tracing. However, in this case, the FPS rate rises to 60.
Remedy assures that the Pro Performance mode has improved elements such as fog, volumetric lighting, shadow accuracy, and image stability. Moreover, they explain that the Performance mode for PS5 Pro surpasses the Quality mode of the base PS5 in terms of output resolution and visual detail. While the rendering details are not exactly the same, they are quite close.
As for the anniversary update, players of Alan Wake 2 (regardless of whether they own a PS5 Pro or not) will be able to enjoy improvements such as inverted X-axis for mouse and keyboard, gyro aiming support from the DualSense, vibration support for more elements, and a Game Assistance menu. This menu includes various "features," such as damage invulnerability, immortality, unlimited ammunition, flashlight batteries that don't deplete, among others.
The proposal may seem like a recipe for disaster and chaos, although it is what some players are looking for. Remedy Entertainment is prioritizing game accessibility, which is a significant advancement for those who struggle with current control schemes. The anniversary update will be available starting tomorrow, October 22, while there is currently no specific release date for the PS5 Pro enhancements.
