The next Nothing phone is the result of an unusual collaboration.
Nothing is about to launch a special edition of the Phone 2a, which has been conceived and designed in collaboration with its community.
The technology company Nothing has announced the launch of its first community edition smartphone, scheduled for late October. Instead of collaborating with another brand, this device is the result of a partnership with its followers. This project, which began in March 2024, allowed Nothing fans to contribute ideas and designs for the creation of a new smartphone.
The resulting model will be named Nothing Phone 2a Community Edition, and its full unveiling is set for October 30. This community project was carried out in several phases, each allowing user participation. In the first phase, they focused on hardware design, the second on wallpapers, the third on packaging, and finally, the last phase involved marketing. At each stage, the proposals were put to a vote, and the results are now visible on the community edition website, giving a good idea of what the new device will look like.
The design of the back of the Phone 2a will feature a bright green finish, possibly fluorescent, and the wallpapers will follow a similar theme with a striking color palette and a layered effect. Additionally, the packaging and marketing campaigns will reflect these same themes, highlighting the characteristic light effects and Nothing's preference for minimalism.
With the design finalized and the winners selected, only an official presentation remains. As is customary in Nothing projects, an insect will be part of the teaser campaign, this time a firefly glowing in the same green hue planned for the new community edition.
As for the specifications, these were not part of the community design process. However, it is expected that the new model will be identical to the current Nothing Phone 2a, which features a MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro processor, two 50-megapixel cameras, and a 6.7-inch AMOLED display at 120Hz.
The reveal of the Nothing Phone 2a Community Edition will take place at 11 a.m. in the UK, 4 a.m. PT, and 7 a.m. ET, on October 30.
