Recently, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection office released a list of products that will be excluded from tariffs imposed by the Trump administration. Among these products are smartphones, personal computers, and memory chips, covering approximately 80% of the topics typically addressed by Engadget. This exclusion is due to these items being grouped into a specific category of products.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick stated in an interview on Sunday that these products will be part of future sectoral tariffs on semiconductors. The new exclusions will allow many devices and components to be exempt from the 10% global tariffs and the higher tariffs applied to China. Lutnick explained that the president wants everyone to understand that these products are not subject to reciprocal tariffs and will be treated separately. He also mentioned that the implementation of these semiconductor tariffs is expected in about one to two months.

In other news, a phased shutdown of OpenAI's GPT-4.5 model for developers has been announced, with it being replaced by the newer and more cost-effective GPT-4.1 model. Although GPT-4.5 was previously described as the most advanced and capable model, it will now only be available to those using the OpenAI API.
