The new open-back headphones for audiophiles from Audio-Technica are priced at $999.

Audio-Technica has lowered the cost of access to high-end open-back listening to less than $1,000 with its new ATH-ADX3000 headphones.

Audio-Technica has introduced its new open-back headphones, the ATH-ADX3000, which promise to deliver high-end sound quality at a price of $999, significantly lower than its flagship model, the ATH-ADX5000, which costs $1,999. These headphones will be available starting October 24. According to Audio-Technica, the ATH-ADX3000 uses the company's most advanced driver technology, allowing for a natural and spacious audio experience.

The design of the ADX3000 model includes 58mm tungsten diaphragms, a pure iron magnetic circuit, a voice coil, and an aluminum housing. All of these components form an integrated driver unit. The company emphasizes that the diaphragm is extremely lightweight and agile, which, together with the pure iron magnet, contributes to exceptional dynamic range and high efficiency. This driver has been designed and handcrafted at their facilities in Machida, Japan, ensuring clarity and outstanding stereo imaging, with articulated bass, smooth mids, and detailed highs.

In addition, Audio-Technica has implemented its Core Mount technology to position the voice coil at the center of the housing, thereby balancing the acoustic space in both directions of the driver. Hiromichi Ozawa, the company’s chief engineer, mentioned that significant effort was invested to achieve a frequency response that is generally difficult to attain solely with natural airflow. The frequency response of the ADX3000 is impressive, spanning from 5Hz to 45kHz, even exceeding the requirements for high-resolution audio certification from the Japan Audio Society. With an impedance of 50 ohms, they are expected to be easy to drive, even without a dedicated amplifier.

The weight of the ADX3000 is just 9.8 ounces, thanks to its magnesium alloy frame. They include a detachable 9.8-foot cable that features A2DC connectors and a 1/4-inch stereo plug at the end for source devices. Both the headphones and the cable come in an aluminum storage and travel case, ensuring adequate protection for this investment.
