The new Kindle was on sale for a short time before its official announcement.

New Kindle models from Amazon could be on the horizon.

Recently, the British retailer John Lewis started offering 12th generation Kindle models on its website, including the basic version and the new Kindle Kids Edition, despite Amazon not having made an official announcement about its next generation of e-readers. The listings were quickly removed.

An eBay listing also showed the 12th generation Kindle Paperwhite, which was later taken down but included images of the new packaging for the e-reader, revealing minor enhancements such as a slightly larger seven-inch E Ink display.

John Lewis's listing seemed to confirm previous leaks from September. This upgraded Kindle was expected to feature a six-inch E Ink display with 300 ppi, superior contrast, and a front light that is now 25% brighter at its maximum setting. However, unlike the Kindle Paperwhite and other more expensive E Ink devices from Amazon, this new basic Kindle model will not include color temperature adjustment settings for its front light.

According to the listing information, the 12th generation Kindle introduces a new dark mode that inverts the colors of the E Ink screen, making it easier to read in low-light conditions. Additionally, it promises faster page-turning and 16 GB of storage capacity. The listed price was £94.99, which is approximately $124.

As for the 12th generation Kindle Kids Edition, it had the same specifications as the basic model, including a brighter backlight and a better contrast E Ink display. This model, like its predecessors, includes a case, a two-year extended warranty, and a subscription to Amazon Kids+ that provides eBooks and audiobooks aimed at children, as well as a parental control panel. Its price was £114.99, around $150.

Unlike previous versions, which included a one-year subscription to Amazon Kids+, the listing indicated that the new model only includes a six-month subscription. After that period, monthly plans start at $5.99 for Amazon Prime members and $7.99 for non-members.
