The new iOS 18 update from Apple causes issues with the Photos app; here we explain how to fix them.

Several users expressed their dissatisfaction with the new version of the Photos app.

The recent update to iOS 18, released in September, brought several improvements, highlighted by a significant redesign of the Photos app, which was promoted as "the biggest update in history" by the company. This change aimed to simplify navigation and provide a unified view of the image library, making it easier for users to relive special moments.

Despite the redesign's intentions, some users have expressed their dissatisfaction, considering the new interface to be confusing and overwhelming. Although iOS updates typically generate mixed reactions at first, certain users on X noted that, unlike previous changes, they do not see any improvements in the Photos app, leading to notable collective frustration. Some have requested that Apple revert to the previous design of iOS 17.

While it is not possible to roll back to earlier versions of iOS, there is a method to make the app resemble the previous design more closely. Users can open the Photos app and scroll to the bottom of the page where they should select "Customize & Rearrange." This will display eleven collections, including "Recent Days," "People," and "Pinned Collections." By unchecking all collections except for "Media Types," the interface will simplify, allowing for easier navigation. They also have the option to quickly access "Albums" and "Utilities."

On another note, Apple plans to introduce new AI features in the upcoming iOS 18.2 update, which will include the integration of ChatGPT with Siri. This update, scheduled for early December, is expected to introduce AI-powered tools such as Image Playground, Genmoji, Visual Intelligence, and enhanced writing tools, focusing on greater customization and advanced options.

The iOS 18 update also incorporates the Image Playground feature, allowing users to create stylized images based on prompts with categories that include themes, costumes, and locations. Additionally, it allows them to use images from their Photos library and integrates with Notes, Messages, and third-party apps. On the other hand, iPhone 16 owners will have access to Visual Intelligence, which provides real-time information by pointing the camera at different objects or places, such as restaurants, to obtain details like reviews and operating hours.
