The new flagship chipset from MediaTek is ready for artificial intelligence and triple-foldable phones.

MediaTek has officially unveiled its new high-end mobile chipset, the Dimensity 9400. This chip incorporates enhancements in its specifications compared to its predecessor and offers some innovative features. Manufactured using a 3nm process, the 9400 is "up to 40 percent more energy efficient" compared to the Dimensity 9300.
The chipset includes an Arm Cortex-X925 core that operates at 3.62GHz, along with three Arm Cortex-X4 cores and four Cortex-A720 cores, which were revealed at last year's Computex. According to MediaTek, this configuration provides single-core performance that is 35 percent faster and multi-core performance that is 28 percent quicker compared to the 9300.
Additionally, the Dimensity 9400 is equipped with the new Arm Immortalis-G925 GPU, which delivers ray tracing performance that is 40 percent faster. In the realm of artificial intelligence, the standout feature is MediaTek's eighth-generation NPU, capable of training certain lightweight AI models directly on the device, promising performance that is 80 percent faster for language models. It also offers AI video generation and a framework for developers aimed at creating applications that can perform tasks autonomously, a trend that is developing in the field of artificial intelligence.
The Dimensity 9400 also has the ability to scale content for larger displays, which could be useful if foldable screen phones become more common. However, MediaTek is not the only company that has identified this need.
The Dimensity 9400 is expected to hit the market before all of its more futuristic features are implemented, with a launch anticipated in the fourth quarter of this year. MediaTek's high-end chips are typically used in flagship phones from Chinese manufacturers like Vivo and Oppo, suggesting that the 9400 may not reach the U.S. market, where Qualcomm chipsets dominate the most popular Android smartphones.
