The new DAC from HiFi Rose costs more than my entire high-fidelity system, and yet I want it.

If you're an audio lover and haven't considered a HiFi Rose yet, you should do so.

The HiFi Rose RD160 DAC and preamplifier is a device designed for true sound enthusiasts seeking the best in high-resolution audio. This premium unit has captured the attention of audiophiles for months, and it's no surprise, as it can transform any high-fidelity system into an exceptional listening experience.

This model employs several exclusive HiFi Rose technologies, such as ROSE DPC, ROSE NRA, and ROSE CIM. Each of these components has been developed to deliver superior performance in the competitive audio landscape. The ROSE DPC (Digital Processing Core) module ensures precision and accuracy in the signal, utilizing an OCXO clock to optimize sound quality. On the other hand, the ROSE CIM (Completely Isolated Module) features a dual-chip architecture, allowing total mechanical separation between channels, resulting in a balanced and dual-mono design. Additionally, the ROSE NRA (Noise Reduction Analogue) filter helps maintain a flat frequency response, even in low-frequency ranges, a notable achievement in the hi-fi world.

The RD160 boasts three custom linear power supplies that independently power the two channels and the main digital processing board, minimizing interference and cross-talk. Each channel uses two DAC chips: the Asahi Kasei AK4191 performs digital filtering and initial delta-sigma modulation stages, while the AK4499EX handles the final conversion from digital to analog. Among its connectivity options, the RD160 features an SFP USB input that supports optical conversion and external clock inputs of 50Ω and 75Ω for greater compatibility with high-end systems.

Another interesting feature is the output level adjustment option, which allows users to choose between fixed output levels ranging from 1V to 9V, facilitating connection to various amplifiers and preventing issues with low performance or overload. The solid aluminum chassis of the RD160 adds an elegant aesthetic, and its full-width design allows it to integrate seamlessly into an audio system. It also comes with a remote control and a front panel that conceals a display presenting key playback information.

Through this display, users can access four sampling options (Bypass, PCM, DSD, and Upsampling) and six digital filters, allowing them to customize their sound experience. For those comfortable in their listening positions, the device offers multiple screen display options showing sound waves in real time.

The HiFi Rose RD160 will be available in November 2024 in black and silver, priced at £4,699 in the UK, around $6,180 in the United States, and approximately AU$9,000 in Australia.
