Chipolo, the company behind devices similar to AirTag, has recently unveiled the latest version of its product. Unlike previous versions that were only compatible with Apple or Google location technologies, the new Chipolo POP devices are functional right out of the box with both search networks. This integration of different functionalities into a single device aims to make it easier for consumers to choose the option that best suits their needs. Moreover, this feature makes them a better gifting option, as it is not necessary to know whether the recipient uses Android or iPhone.
Chipolo devices belong to a limited group of companies, such as Tile, Pebblebee, and Samsung, that manufacture their own AirTag-like trackers. Unlike Tile, which created a user-based search network through its mobile app, Chipolo decided to leverage the existing networks offered by Apple and Google. Although Tile pioneered this type of device before AirTag, competition with Apple led it to sell itself to the family location company Life360 in 2021 for $205 million.
Since its launch, Chipolo has sold over 4.5 million devices. Following the introduction of its first "Find My" compatible product, the Chipolo ONE Spot and the Chipolo Card Spot, the company has experienced an average annual growth rate of 30%. In addition to being compatible with Apple and Google location networks, the new Chipolo POP includes popular features from previous trackers, such as the ability to locate a lost phone by double-pressing the range alerts, the option to customize the ringtone of the Chipolo, and the use of the tracker as a remote trigger for selfies. The device's Bluetooth range has been extended to 90 meters (300 feet), and its battery lasts up to a year and is user-replaceable. The new devices are available in several colors: blue, black, green, red, white, and yellow, and are marketed at a price of $29 (£30/€35) on Chipolo's website and on Amazon.
