The new Anova steam oven can identify your food and guide you in cooking it.
The decision of what to eat remains your responsibility.
The Anova Precision Oven 2.0 features a high-definition internal camera that allows it to identify the foods being cooked, providing recommendations on the modes and temperatures that ensure the best results. While the original model was launched at a price of $599, the new version is available today for $1,199, introducing significant improvements to this combi convection and steam oven, which enables cooking using an innovative combination of moist and dry heat. Although Anova mentions that the product will be available for direct purchase, currently only a temporary registration page can be accessed.
Combi ovens like the Anova Precision Oven 2.0 are more common in restaurants and used by professional chefs. Therefore, offering suggestions to home cooks regarding its use can be very helpful in reducing the learning curve. However, the new smart functionalities come at a high cost. The oven's internal camera not only identifies the foods but can also provide cooking recommendations and, in the future, may alert users when deep cleaning the appliance is necessary.
Anova also offers an optional app that utilizes the cameras of mobile devices to identify packaged foods and suggest the best cooking methods, as well as providing access to additional recipes and live streaming from inside the oven. Access to recipes through the app may cost $1.99 per month or $9.99 per year. Anova has indicated that new features that will leverage the oven's camera will be launched soon, such as reminders for deep cleans and error detection in cooking before food spoils. It has not been specified whether these new features will incur an additional charge, although in the past, Anova implemented a subscription system that limited some functions in its popular sous vide cooking range for new customers.
The versatility of the Anova Precision Oven 2.0 surpasses that of other similar appliances, such as air fryers or toaster ovens, as it can be used to bake bread, roast a whole chicken, fry frozen french fries, dehydrate fruits, or cook sous vide without the need for bags or a water bath. This new version also retains three internal temperature sensors from the previous model, ensuring that the desired cooking temperature is maintained with an accuracy of half a degree. Additionally, it includes enhanced steam injection from a water tank located on the side and optimized heating elements at the bottom of the oven.
