The most popular car brands worldwide.

An analysis conducted a record of the most popular brands globally, considering both nations and regions, revealing unexpected findings.

A recent analysis conducted by Compare the Market has examined Google Trends data for the year 2024 across 155 countries, revealing the world's most popular car brands. The report highlights that Toyota remains in the top position, being the leading brand in 64 countries, a figure that has remained unchanged since 2023. Meanwhile, Tesla has increased its presence, rising from 29 countries in 2023 to 34 this year, indicating it is closing the gap with Toyota.

BMW ranks third, experiencing a boost in performance as it is the number one brand in 30 countries this year, up from 26 the previous year. Other brands like Fiat, Hyundai, Nissan, Honda, Chevrolet, Mazda, Peugeot, and Suzuki have also shown improvements, while Kia and Mercedes-Benz have seen a decline in their popularity.

Toyota continues to show strong performance globally, excelling in regions such as Africa, Asia, parts of the Middle East, and South America. This year, the Japanese brand launched a right-hand drive version of its popular Tundra pickup and unveiled the fifth generation of the Land Cruiser Prado, known as Land Cruiser 250 in Japan. Additionally, it has expanded the availability of its electric car BZ4x in Australia.

Adrian Taylor, General Manager of General Insurance at Compare the Market, commented on Toyota's strong performance, highlighting its established reputation over the years. He also noted how remarkable it is that Tesla is increasing its competition in certain countries, like Ford in the United States and Volvo in Sweden. Despite Toyota's stability, Taylor suggests that Tesla could eventually close the gap.

In terms of sales, Toyota reaffirms its leadership as the world's best-selling car manufacturer, surpassing Volkswagen, which holds the second position. Over the past year, Toyota sold 11.2 million vehicles, representing a 7.2% increase compared to the previous year, marking its fourth consecutive year at the top of sales and setting a new annual record.

In other industry developments, Tesla plans to launch a new mass-market electric vehicle by 2025, which is speculated to be the most affordable in its lineup to date. Elon Musk confirmed that production of this new model will begin in the second half of 2025 at the Texas plant.

On the other hand, rumors about an Apple vehicle seem to be waning, as the company has made no official announcement regarding the development of a car, despite past leaks and hiring activity.
