The immersive Vision Pro camera from Blackmagic is available for just $29,995.
With a retro style and too expensive for my wallet.
Blackmagic has revealed that its commercial camera, the URSA Cine Immersive, designed for recording high-quality immersive 3D videos, is now available for pre-order "directly from the offices of Blackmagic Design." The first deliveries are scheduled for early 2025. This equipment, priced at $29,995 —equivalent to 8.6 units of the Vision Pro— promises to provide more immersive content for the Vision Pro device.
The URSA Cine Immersive allows cinematographers to record video at 90 fps in stereoscopic 3D with a resolution of 8160 x 7200 per eye, which more than doubles the estimated resolution per eye of the Vision Pro screens. Users will be able to edit the recorded material using the Apple Immersive Video format in DaVinci Resolve Studio, support that the company plans to add early next year.
Grant Petty, CEO of Blackmagic Design, commented that the DaVinci update will enable "a comprehensive workflow for Apple Immersive Video." He also expressed excitement about closely collaborating with filmmakers to create immersive videos before the camera is more widely launched in 2025.
Blackmagic also included images of the camera in its communication, which stand out for their attractive design. Although the Vision Pro currently has some immersive content through applications like Amplium or Explore POV, the quality does not compare to that of Apple’s productions. So far, Apple has been the only content producer using its format, and only a limited number of videos are available. However, this could change if studios take advantage of Blackmagic's new camera and the DaVinci update.
