Hyundai has unveiled its new three-row electric SUV, the Ioniq 9, ahead of the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show. This model is based on the Seven concept, which was revealed in 2021 and is designed on the E-GMP platform that underpins other electric vehicles from the brand, such as the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6. Equipped with a 110.3 kWh battery, the Ioniq 9 is expected to offer over 300 miles of range across all its versions.

The Ioniq 9 will be available in two variants: Long Range and Performance, with options for rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. The Long Range RWD version will produce around 214 horsepower and nearly 260 lb-ft of torque, while the Long Range AWD model will feature a 70 kW motor at the front and a 160 kW motor at the rear. Meanwhile, the Performance AWD model will be equipped with two 160 kW motors. The brand has indicated that only the Ioniq 5N, with over 600 hp, will surpass the Ioniq 9 in power, although the final figures for power and torque will be confirmed at launch.

The Ioniq 9 will also be compatible with Tesla's charging system and will offer an adapter for non-Tesla charging stations. However, the placement of the charging port on the rear passenger side may complicate usage with short-cable Tesla chargers, although new V4 chargers are expected to have longer cables.

Additionally, this SUV will have access to the Ionna charging network and will offer bidirectional charging features, allowing owners to power their homes during outages. In terms of comfort, the second row will be equipped with Relaxation seats (only in the Calligraphy trim) that can recline and feature a massage function, providing a relaxing atmosphere during charging. The seats will also be able to swivel to create a social space.

Other innovations include a UV-C sterilizer in the glove compartment and a sliding center console in models with captain's chairs, improving accessibility to the third seat. Furthermore, the Ioniq 9 will feature over-the-air software updates and a new app store that will allow users to customize various features of their vehicle, such as lighting patterns and the design of the digital dashboard, for an additional cost.

Hyundai has not set final prices for the Ioniq 9, which will be manufactured at its new plant in Georgia in collaboration with LG Energy Solution. Given the recent political uncertainty regarding tariffs and tax credits, the company states that it will take all market factors into account in its pricing strategy. The Ioniq 9 model, which will launch as a 2026 model, is expected to go on sale in the second quarter of next year, while equipment lines for the U.S. market continue to be adjusted.
