The Firefly spacecraft en route to the moon captures a "postcard" image of Earth.

The Blue Ghost spacecraft from Firefly Aerospace has taken an impressive photograph of Earth while heading towards the moon.

The Blue Ghost spacecraft from Firefly Aerospace has captured an impressive photograph of Earth during its journey to the Moon. The image, shared on X, shows Australia and its surroundings, which delighted two members of the Australian team at the mission control center. "Hello to our friends down there!" expressed Firefly, highlighting the beauty of the captured landscape.

The photograph was taken by an onboard camera shortly after Blue Ghost left Earth’s orbit. In an additional post, the Texas-based team commented that "Blue Ghost has hit the road to the Moon." After successfully completing a trans-lunar injection burn, the module has left the orbit of our planet and will begin a four-day transit to reach lunar orbit, where it will remain for about 16 days before beginning its descent.

Blue Ghost was launched on January 15 aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Once it reaches the Moon, it is expected to land on March 2, in a mission that will last approximately 60 days, including 14 days of operations on the lunar surface.

Measuring approximately 2 meters tall and 3.5 meters wide, the Blue Ghost lander will conduct 10 scientific investigations and technology demonstrations aimed at supporting future human exploration of the Moon under the Artemis program. The landing is scheduled near a volcanic feature called Mons Latreille, located within Mare Crisium, a 500-kilometer-wide basin on the Moon's near side.

The objectives of this mission are varied, including the study of lunar regolith, testing new technologies for future missions, and conducting scientific experiments, such as observing Earth's magnetic field from the Moon. Additionally, Firefly aims to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers, recalling that many of its members dreamed of space as children, gazing at the stars and using their creativity to build vehicles with construction blocks.

Additionally, Blue Ghost sent another stunning image of Earth while in its Earth orbit, providing a magnificent visual display.
