The Elvie automatic seat and crib is priced at $799 for six months of use.
Cheaper than a Snoo.
Elvie Rise is a baby seat controlled by an app that can transform into a bassinet without having to move the baby. However, its price is $799, making it somewhat inaccessible, and it is also not suitable for children older than six months. There are more affordable seating options that do not have motors or apps and are also adjustable for naps, leading Elvie to focus on baby safety as its primary selling point.
A study conducted by the company indicates that more than 67% of babies aged 0 to 3 months frequently sleep in products that are not considered safe for sleep, whether during the day or at night. Elvie Rise meets the AAP's safe sleep guidelines, which require a firm, flat mattress, breathable fabrics, and retractable straps. Its “SootheLoop” technology allows for the recording of the desired intensity and duration of bouncing motion, which can then be repeated automatically. In manual mode, the motion can only be controlled by the baby.
To convert the seat into a bassinet, the caregiver must lift the seat and adjust the curtains when the baby begins to show signs of tiredness. This bouncer mode is suitable from birth to six months or until the little one, weighing less than 20 pounds, starts sitting up on their own. The bassinet, on the other hand, is only suitable until the baby is five months old or starts supporting themselves on their hands and knees.
Portable bassinets that comply with AAP guidelines start at around $140, while reputable bouncers can cost about $200. Although the $799 price tag may be justifiable for those who value the convenience of a 2-in-1 device and motorized movement, it is crucial not to lose the charger. It would be ideal for the company to offer a simpler version without a motor or app, as the design is appealing. Despite its high price, the Elvie Rise is more economical than alternatives like the Snoo or a bassinet that detects dirt, and it does not require a monthly subscription.
