The Elevation Labs TimeCapsule will keep an AirTag running for ten years.

When a one-year battery life is not enough.

Elevation Lab has launched TimeCapsule, a case designed to protect the Apple AirTag, making it a water and dust-resistant tracker with a battery life of up to ten years. This product is already available for $19.99; however, you can also purchase two units for $29.99 or a pack of four at a great discount for $39.99.

The design of TimeCapsule resembles the size of a candy bar and replaces the AirTag's CR2032 battery with an electrical contact and space for a couple of AA batteries. Made with "fiber-reinforced polycarbonate," Elevation Lab assures that it will not affect the quality of Bluetooth or UWB signal range. In addition, the case has an IP69 rating, ensuring optimal protection against water, dust, and dirt ingress, which is essential for a tracker that promises durability.

Furthermore, the TimeCapsule offers the possibility to conceal the AirTag, making it look like an external storage unit rather than a tracking device.

However, there are downsides. With the batteries installed, the TimeCapsule weighs 3.5 ounces, compared to the 0.39 ounces of a standard AirTag. Additionally, the case reduces the volume of the AirTag's beeps by about a third, which could make it harder to locate audibly. Nonetheless, for those who prefer not to replace the AirTag battery every year, this sacrifice seems a minor cost. The company suggests using Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA batteries to maximize battery life and prevent leaks and corrosion that are common with alkaline batteries. It is also possible to use nickel-metal hydride batteries, although their lifespan will not be as long before needing a recharge.
