The electric 'Suite on Wheels' by RollAway is now available for rent.
RollAway, a Silicon Valley startup, is offering luxury stays, Airbnb-style, in electric vans produced by GM's BrightDrop.
RollAway, a Silicon Valley startup, has taken the glamping experience, or luxury camping, with electric vehicles to the next level. The company is offering "stays on wheels" with a stylish twist similar to Airbnb, where users can experience the comfort of a fully equipped electric van designed by BrightDrop, a GM company.
The service began accepting early bookings for its stays on wheels in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2023 and recently officially launched its "Suite on Wheels" offering, allowing reservations for 2025. Although bookings are open for the near future, RollAway's website already shows that all vans are reserved until October of next year, which could indicate a growing interest in this new trend.
RollAway's proposal is described on its website as: "It's not a hotel. It's not an Airbnb... but the ultimate stay on wheels." Additionally, the company emphasizes its commitment to sustainable, zero-emissions tourism, starting with the BrightDrop electric van that promises a range of 270 miles on a full charge.
The "Suite on Wheels" features large windows and a panoramic roof that allows guests to enjoy natural views, filling the interior with natural light. In camping mode, a wide back door perfectly connects the interior space with the outdoors. The interior of the recreational vehicle includes a fully equipped kitchen, a living/sleeping area, and a bathroom with a shower.
The luxurious part of the experience includes five-star services and amenities such as a virtual concierge, YETI branded items, Starlink Wi-Fi, farm-to-table breakfast, cleaning service, and spa-class bath products.
While RollAway is innovating in the rental space, it is not the first company to transform GM's BrightDrop vans into recreational vehicles. Grounded, a Detroit startup, launched its own version in 2020, and Mercedes-Benz plans to launch its next-generation electric vans in 2026.
