The creator of the Grand Theft Auto trilogy expresses his discontent.

The controversial Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition has received an unexpected update, although not all users are satisfied with this change.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition received an unexpected and much-needed update earlier this week, although the fan response has been mixed. After installing the patch on PC and consoles, fans noticed that Grove Street Games, the studio that developed this edition alongside Rockstar Games, had disappeared from the splash screen prior to the main menu. Thomas Williamson, the CEO of Grove Street, commented on X about the decision: "Hypothetically speaking, it's a [stupid] move to remove the main developers from the credits in an update, especially when it includes hundreds of fixes that those developers provided and that have been kept out of players' hands for years."

Fans noted that, although Grove Street Games no longer appears on the splash screen, they are still included in the credits at the end of the game. The trilogy encompasses the classic titles Grand Theft Auto 3, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, which was first released in 2021. However, the initial reception was negative due to the removal of the games' distinctive tones and performance issues such as poor lighting and faulty water effects. Many of these problems were addressed when the package was released on Netflix last year, and they are now also available on other platforms. This allows players to enjoy all three titles on virtually every platform, except for Nintendo Switch, with an enhanced experience. According to Williamson, their studio was also involved in those updates.

On another note, the release of the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 is approaching, expected in December, after over a decade of anticipation. The revelation of GTA 6 will be one of the most significant events in the video game industry this year, regardless of what Rockstar shows. This project has generated a lot of speculation regarding its location, plot, and the innovations it will bring.

In another realm, a new mod for Grand Theft Auto V has been released, incorporating a new mission with over 30 NPCs whose voices and responses are generated by artificial intelligence. This mod, titled Sentient Streets, allows players to take on the role of a police officer in Los Santos investigating a cult known as NihiAIists, who believe they exist in a virtual world and worship an AI god. Unlike traditional mods, this one does not use professional voice actors but instead relies on AI technologies like those from Inworld and ElevenLabs.

Additionally, it has been reported that Rockstar dismissed the possibility of making a Grand Theft Auto movie with Eminem in the lead role. The late director Tony Scott was considered to direct the film. Kirk Ewing, director of Earthworm Jim, mentioned in a podcast that he discussed this idea with Sam Houser from Rockstar during a conversation they had in a hotel.
