Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene, known for creating the worldwide hit PUBG, has returned with ambitious plans for several new games through his studio, PlayerUnknown Productions. After a period of silence, the studio has begun to reveal details about the projects it is working on, including a series of releases that will culminate in a major final project.

One of the first titles being presented is Prologue: Go Wayback!, a game that combines exploration in an open world with survival genre elements. This project, which was teased in 2021, focuses on technical innovations, as it will be developed using machine-learning-driven terrain generation technology. This will allow for the instant creation of millions of maps. Prologue is set to release in early access on Steam in 2025, following several playtests. To give players a sneak peek of what to expect, a free technical demo titled Preface: Undiscovered World has been released.

According to the studio, all these titles are fundamental components for a more ambitious project currently referred to as “Artemis,” which is expected to be a massive multiplayer sandbox experience. Greene first mentioned Artemis in 2022 when it was initially planned as a game with NFT support, although this recent announcement has not made reference to that technology. Greene shared his vision for developing Artemis, indicating that it is a challenge but will be approached gradually. The three titles in development will serve as a technical foundation to scale up to the final product. Prologue, in particular, is designed to attract players and introduce them to the emergent mechanics and vast worlds that are in development.

In 2019, Greene stepped away from PUBG and established a new studio called “PUBG Special Projects.” Two years later, he announced his independence from Krafton, the parent company of PUBG, expressing his excitement about moving forward to create the experiences he has envisioned for years.
