The creator of Binding of Isaac will release a new game, Mewgenics, this year.

Mewgenics, the cat breeding and battling game created by the author of The Binding of Isaac, will finally be released in 2025.

Mewgenics, the cat-breeding RPG, will be released in 2025, according to a new trailer revealed and an update on the game's Steam page. Originally conceived as a project after Super Meat Boy, Mewgenics combines elements of a turn-based RPG with a quirky cat simulation. The game was first presented by Team Meat, the developer duo composed of Edmund McMillen and Tommy Refenes, throughout 2013, but was suspended in 2014 to focus on completing Super Meat Boy Forever, a mobile sequel to the original game.

When McMillen left Team Meat in 2018 to work on The Binding of Isaac, Mewgenics went with him and has been in continuous development since then. The trailer suggests that repeatable turn-based battles have become a significant part of the game, maintaining McMillen's characteristic grotesque animation style, along with all the cat furniture.

The developers, McMillen and co-creator Tyler Glaiel, have been regularly posting blog entries on Steam that address different aspects of the development process. Additionally, more details about the game will soon be revealed: in their latest update, the creators announced that IGN will publish a hands-on preview of the game in May.
