The BAFTA Game Awards are charmingly conquered by Astro Bot.
The 2025 BAFTA Video Game Awards were held yesterday in London and were led by one of our favorite games of the year, Astro Bot.
Yesterday, the BAFTA Video Game Awards 2025 were held in London, where one title stood out above the rest: Astro Bot. This platform game for PlayStation 5 won awards in five categories, including Game of the Year, as well as Animation, Audio Achievement, Family Game, and Game Design. This success is not surprising given the critical acclaim it has received and its popularity among players.
Astro Bot represents the first fully realized and full-priced version of the Astro universe. Jessica Conditt from Engadget noted that "with precise and responsive controls, adorable characters, and an exciting variety of mechanics and environments, Astro Bot is undoubtedly one of the best games Sony has produced." In the Game of the Year category, it managed to surpass strong competitors like Balatro, Black Myth: Wukong, Helldivers 2, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, and Thank Goodness You're Here.
The game Still Wakes the Deep took second place with three BAFTA awards: New Intellectual Property, and Performance in Supporting and Lead Roles. One of the winners, Scottish actress Karen Dunbar (in the role of Finlay), made a humorous statement in her acceptance speech by saying, "I'm not even an actress, I'm a gynecologist!"
Other notable winners of the night included Balatro, which won in the Debut Game category, Thank Goodness You're Here as Best British Game, Helldivers 2 in the multiplayer and music categories, Neva for Artistic Achievement, and Metaphor: ReFantazio for Narrative.
