The Aqara T1 Smart Valve Controller integrates into more smart homes thanks to Matter.

An economical solution for smart homes that stops uncontrolled leaks.

The Aqara T1 smart valve controller has hit the market, offering for the first time a smart home option that is compatible with Matter. This device, priced at $69.99, connects to the water shut-off valve, allowing for remote operation or automatic shut-off when a leak is detected. Unlike some more expensive alternatives from brands like Moen, Kohler, and Belkin, Aqara’s hub allows the T1 to integrate with major home automation platforms.

Currently, the only systems that are compatible with smart valve controllers like this one are Samsung and Home Assistant, although more platforms are expected to expand their support for Matter devices in the future. The T1 can be attached to the lever or butterfly handle of most household valves. Aqara assures that the device is "user-friendly, as it does not require significant modifications to the existing plumbing installation" and is compatible with half-inch, three-quarter-inch, and one-inch pipes.

The T1 controller runs on four AA batteries, which the company claims can last up to two years. To create automations, Aqara also offers an affordable leak sensor, or another one that is compatible with the preferred smart home platform can be used once support has been added.
