The Apple Watch SE could feature a new design this year.
The upcoming Apple Watch SE, expected to be released this year, may hit the market with a refreshed design. Additionally, this budget model could replace metal with plastic.
Apple has begun a redesign process for its line of smartwatches, starting with the Apple Watch Series 10 last year. Now, the company is also expected to make aesthetic changes to the Apple Watch SE, which is set to launch later this year. According to Mark Gurman's PowerOn newsletter, it is mentioned that the entry-level SE model will receive a significant update in its appearance.
The report does not provide specific details about the modifications consumers can expect in the new version of the Apple Watch SE. However, it was indicated in a previous post that the aluminum case might be replaced with plastic, which could be related to a strategy to reduce costs. It is still unclear whether Apple will adjust the selling price, but the use of plastic could be a way to balance expenses arising from more expensive internal components. Currently, the Apple Watch SE has a starting price of $249 in the United States.
On the other hand, Samsung offers its Galaxy Watch FE at a more accessible price of $200, while the Galaxy Watch 6, which comes with more features, starts at just $50 above the Apple Watch SE.
If Apple decides to incorporate a plastic chassis, it will be interesting to see how the build quality compares to the aluminum one used so far. Although plastic can scratch easily, it may also offer a variety of new attractive colors. Additionally, an updated processor is anticipated, although there is still no concrete information on whether the new design will include a larger display, a superior battery, or a thinner profile.
Regarding features, significant improvements are not expected. The electrocardiogram function is expected to remain exclusive to the main and Ultra models; however, if Apple finally introduces blood pressure measurement capability this year, it is possible that some high-end health features will also come to the Apple Watch SE.
