The affordable TCL 60XE uses NXTpaper to break battery life records.

"Only for $199?!"

TCL has unveiled its new smartphone, the TCL 60XE NXTpaper 5G, promising an impressive battery life. This device, set to launch in the United States and Canada, aims to deliver up to seven days of usage thanks to NXTPaper technology, which, although similar to electronic paper, is not the same as that used in other products by the company.

The TCL 60XE features a 6.8-inch FHD+ display that, while being LCD, incorporates layers designed to reduce glare and eliminate blue light, offering an almost matte appearance similar to that of a magazine. This technology allows for efficient energy consumption, although the user must manually activate the NXTPaper mode using a physical switch; if used consistently in this mode, the battery can last up to a week, and in standby, it can reach up to 26 days.

It's worth noting that this new model does not include the more advanced version of NXTPaper technology that TCL plans to introduce later this year. The latest version, NXTPaper 4.0, will be showcased in the TCL NXTPaper 11 Plus tablet. This new technology involves a nano-matrix engraving process that creates microstructures in the glass of the display to enhance visual quality without generating reflections.

In terms of specifications, the TCL 60XE has a 50MP front camera, a 32MP rear camera, 256GB of storage, and 8GB of RAM, expandable up to 16GB. Typically, features like these would price a device around $800, but TCL has set a price of just $199 for this smartphone in North America, an unprecedented figure for a phone that offers such prolonged battery performance.

The build quality, camera capabilities, and overall performance of the device will be evaluated in greater depth once the phone is available for user testing.
