Tesla recalls Cybertrucks due to a dangerous issue with the rearview screen.
"Check your mirrors!"
Tesla has announced a voluntary recall that will affect nearly all units of the Cybertruck manufactured to date, due to a software issue that compromises the already limited rear visibility of the model. This is not the first or second recall that the Cybertruck is facing. This measure includes 27,000 vehicles produced between November 13, 2023, and September 14, 2024. According to the official communication, “a delayed image from the rear camera reduces the driver’s view of what is behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of an accident.”
Cybertruck owners using software version 2024.32.5.2 have reported that the backup camera displays a blank screen for up to 8 seconds while reversing, just before the shutdown or reboot process is completed. This issue violates a federal vehicle safety standard, which states that images must appear within 2 seconds or less.
Affected owners have been offered a free software update via an over-the-air (OTA) connection to resolve this issue. They are expected to receive notification letters with more details in November. They can also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit the corresponding website.
Alongside this Cybertruck recall, the company has ceased offering its least expensive model, the Model 3. Last July, Tesla conducted a recall of nearly 2 million cars due to a software failure in certain models, which could jeopardize drivers and cause damage by failing to detect unsecured hoods. This was the largest recall in the company's history.
