Telegram is starting the year 2025 remarkably by implementing third-party verification as a security measure for its users and to combat fraud. According to the social network, this new functionality introduces verification icons that can be assigned by external services to accounts and chats, contributing to greater transparency on the platform. This additional verification aims to prevent scams and promote a decrease in misinformation, creating a higher security standard for social media.
When a chat or account receives third-party verification, a small icon will appear next to its name. By accessing the profile, users can view a detailed explanation of the verification status and its meaning. Only those entities that have an official bot validated by Telegram will be able to request their certification as external verifiers, further reinforcing the fight against fraud and misinformation.
Among other new features that Telegram announced for 2025, there are improvements to the gifts that can be sent through the app, which can now be turned into collectibles. These special gifts have unique attributes and can be transferred or auctioned in NFT markets. Additionally, when a user receives a gift, joins a group, or starts a video chat, a special message will appear in the conversation that will allow reactions, facilitating interaction and expressions of gratitude with a simple tap.
The search functionality in the chat list has also been optimized. It is now possible to find specific messages from all chats thanks to the inclusion of new filters that refine the results to show only messages from private chats, groups, or channels. Furthermore, users will be able to create custom chat folders to organize their conversations, and for Premium users, emojis have been added to the names of these folders, allowing for more expressive personalization.
