Starbucks launches delivery service through its own app.
More options to satisfy your mocha craving.
Starbucks has launched a new feature that allows users to place delivery orders directly from their app. Starting today, customers in the United States and Canada can order their coffee to be delivered to their homes, thanks to a collaboration with DoorDash. However, this option is only available at select stores in both countries.
Although Starbucks has offered delivery services through DoorDash since early last year, this option was restricted to the DoorDash app. Previously, users of the Starbucks app could only place orders for in-store pickup or drive-thru. Now, they have the option to toggle between pickup and delivery. When selecting the delivery service, users will find a layout similar to the DoorDash app.
Service fees are an important aspect to consider. For example, the delivery fee is $1.99, and if the order subtotal is less than $10, an additional $2.00 fee will apply. Additionally, there is a 15% charge that goes to DoorDash, and in some areas, such as Seattle, customers may face an additional cost of $4.99, corresponding to driver compensation. Thus, a $6.55 coffee could end up costing as much as $19.23 once all fees and tips are added.
Depending on the location, costs can vary; however, the delivery option makes more sense if a large order is placed, for example, for an entire office. Personally, I have chosen to remove that expensive order from my cart, as I prefer to make coffee at home.
