Following the announcement of the imminent closure of Specter Divide, a multiplayer shooter developed by Mountaintop Studios, another live service game is set to shut down. Today, Zynga, the developer of Star Wars: Hunters, announced that the game will close its doors on October 1.
Hunters is a class-based arena shooter featuring original characters, although some have quirky names like Babu Frik, who come from across the Star Wars universe. After a soft launch in selected countries in 2021, the game did not see a global release on mobile devices and Nintendo Switch until June 2024. This means that the official lifespan of the game will be just 16 months before it is shut down. However, this period is relatively long compared to Specter Divide, which was active for about six months before its scheduled closure in the next 30 days.
Despite the impending shutdown, the developers have some surprises for Star Wars: Hunters players. The current season will be extended by three more weeks, and a new hero will be launched on April 15. Additionally, competitive mode rankings will remain available until the game ends in October.
