Over the years, many startups have emerged by designing, manufacturing, and marketing standing desks as part of an innovation trend in workspaces aimed at promoting better health. Several executives, including Apple CEO Tim Cook, have expressed their support for this practice, referring to sitting as "the new cancer." However, a recent study analyzing over 83,000 adults found that standing for more than two hours a day not only does not protect against cardiovascular risks but also increases the likelihood of developing circulatory issues such as varicose veins, abnormally low blood pressure, and blood clots.

Additionally, it was discovered that standing burns only nine extra calories per hour. Researchers warn that sedentary behavior remains a significant concern, as physical inactivity is detrimental to health. Instead, Professor Emmanuel Stamatakis from the University of Sydney, who led the study, suggests that the key is to move every 30 minutes. "Muscle contraction is a necessary condition for any activity aimed at maintaining or improving health," Stamatakis notes.
