Soon you will be able to make TikTok-style edits with YouTube Shorts.

New editing features will soon be added to YouTube Shorts.

More and more social media platforms are looking to compete in the short video space, a market that TikTok has dominated. Notable among them are Instagram with its Reels and YouTube with its Shorts. In an effort to enhance its offering, YouTube is implementing a series of new features to facilitate the creation and editing of short videos, promising to make this experience more fun and accessible.

These tools for YouTube Shorts will be available starting in the spring and will include features powered by artificial intelligence, as well as an improved video editor. This new editor will allow for more precise adjustments in video synchronization, which is crucial for short content. In line with the popularity of viral songs on TikTok, video creators will be able to automatically align clips with the beat of a song, making it easier to create synchronized edits.

Johanna Voolich, Head of Product at YouTube, stated that "the editor is going to be much more powerful. It will allow for pinches and zooms to find the right moments in the Shorts and customize them.” Among the new functionalities will be AI-generated stickers, which can be created from text and added directly to the Short. Users will also be able to incorporate stickers based on images from their gallery, streamlining the customization process.

Moreover, templates will be updated so users can replicate the style and effects of popular formats in their own Shorts. A highlighted aspect is that using a template will automatically attribute it to its original creator as recognition.

On the other hand, YouTube has announced that it will be removing its Stories feature, similar to Instagram Stories, starting June 26. This will be the last day to post a new story, and a week later, any existing stories will stop being active. The platform is redirecting creators to YouTube community posts, which offer an option to share light updates and encourage interaction with the audience.

Finally, YouTube has introduced new benefits for iOS users who are subscribed to YouTube Premium. For a monthly fee, subscribers will enjoy an ad-free experience, the option to download videos for offline viewing, background playback of videos, and access to YouTube Music Premium.
