Solos launches ChatGPT smart glasses at a price of $299 to compete with Meta's Ray-Bans.
Both competing products have a remarkably identical price.
The new smart glasses from Solos, equipped with a camera, have hit the market, offering a competitive option against Meta's Ray-Bans. The AirGo Vision are available starting at $299, the same price as Meta's optical devices, and feature integration with OpenAI's GPT-4o AI model, allowing them to identify and respond to questions about people, objects, and texts captured by the camera.
This functionality enables the AirGo Vision to perform actions such as translating text into different languages, providing directions to nearby places, or offering additional information about what the user is observing. Furthermore, Solos mentions that these glasses can integrate with other AI models like Google Gemini and Anthropic's Claude, something the company had hinted at previously when presenting the AirGo Vision in June.
Like the smart glasses from Ray-Ban Meta, the AirGo Vision can take pictures on demand. Their interchangeable frame system allows users to wear the glasses with or without the camera. The battery and touch sensors for device control are located in the USB-C rechargeable hinges of the frame, providing an audio-only option when paired with the standard frames that do not include a camera.
Kenneth Fan, co-founder of Solos, stated that one of the company's commitments is to offer users control over their experience with artificial intelligence and smart technology, particularly concerning privacy options. This was part of the reasoning behind developing frames that can be easily changed to decide when and where it is appropriate to use the camera without sacrificing fun features.
As for purchasing options, Solos offers the glasses for $149 for just the frame or a package that includes a frame with a camera and a regular frame for added privacy, priced at $349. The AirGo Vision come in seven colors and two frame styles: Krypton 1, which has a large square design with prominent nose pads, and the slimmer Krypton 2.
