Simple tips to safeguard your Android phone from theft and crime.

Various updates have been implemented to enhance privacy and security.

With the arrival of Android 15 for Pixel devices, Google has implemented various improvements focused on privacy and security. Among the most notable innovations are the enhanced theft protection features designed to make it more difficult for thieves to access user information. Initially, locating these settings was somewhat complicated. However, it has been reported that this has changed.

To access the theft protection menu on devices running Android 15, users should follow these steps:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Select Google.
  3. Choose All services, scroll down, and select Theft protection.
  4. Turn on the theft detection lock option and confirm by selecting Activate.

With a recent update, these menus are now more accessible by navigating to Settings > Security and privacy > Device unlock. Although some taps are still required, this new location in the Settings app is more logical and quicker to find.

The new theft protection functionalities in Android are divided into three main components:

  • Theft detection lock: This feature automatically locks the device if it detects that it has been stolen, preventing unauthorized access.
  • Offline device lock: This option ensures that the phone locks if it remains disconnected for an extended period, ensuring its security even without internet access.
  • Remote lock: If "Find my device" cannot be used, android.com/lock can be accessed to remotely lock the device using the phone number.

These tools work together to protect both the phone and the personal information of users. Android 15 was initially launched on Pixel devices like the Google Pixel 9 and is expected that other Android phones, including models from Samsung and Motorola, will also receive this update in the near future.

In addition to security and privacy enhancements, the update includes a "Private Space" for sensitive applications and better password management features. It also optimizes the user experience on larger screens with new settings and multitasking functions. Camera capabilities improve in low-light conditions, and new messaging features such as satellite connectivity and support for access keys have been incorporated. The update also promises performance improvements and development tools to enrich the app experience.
