Rode presents its most compact wireless microphone kit, specifically designed for smartphones.
Improve audio quality with Rode's small and very easy-to-use wireless microphone.
Rode has introduced its smallest and lightest wireless microphone to date, known as the Wireless Micro, specifically designed for content creation on smartphones. Weighing only 0.42oz (12g), this microphone represents a leap in audio quality while being discreet and wireless.
The kit includes two microphones (also known as transmitters) and a receiver, all stored in a charging case that adds up to a total weight of 3.6oz (102g). Each microphone measures just 40 x 20 x 17mm, making it extremely compact. To start using it, simply connect the receiver to the smartphone's charging port, automatically syncing it with the microphones. In some cases, it may be necessary to manually select the external microphone option in the phone's camera settings.
The microphones can be clipped onto clothing or attached magnetically and are available in black and white. There are versions with USB-C and Lightning connections, ensuring compatibility with Android and iPhone devices. Additionally, Rode's patented acoustic design includes windshields, along with extra furry covers included in the box for clearer outdoor recordings. However, the latter are not suitable for the charging case.
The suggested retail price for the Wireless Micro is $149, with pricing information for the UK and Australia pending confirmation.
This wireless microphone stands out for its ease of use, allowing content creators to capture high-quality audio in seconds. With a transmission range exceeding 100 meters and battery life of up to seven hours per microphone, the kit can be recharged via its case, which has a 490mAh battery, providing a total usage time of up to 21 hours.
In addition to recording audio in the phone's camera app, the Wireless Micro is compatible with the free Rode Capture app, which offers additional features such as sound level monitoring. The microphone frequency ranges from 20Hz to 20kHz, with a maximum SPL of 135db, comparable to other wireless microphones from the brand.
The Intelligent GainAssist technology automatically adjusts audio levels, allowing users to focus on the content they are creating. While a deeper assessment of the audio quality is needed in a future review, the Wireless Micro appears to be an excellent addition to Rode's range of wireless microphones and could become one of its most popular products.
