Roblox seeks to evade app store fees by making Robux more valuable on other platforms.
Increase your amount of Robux by making purchases from your computer.
Roblox has decided to encourage its users to purchase its in-game currency, Robux, through platforms that do not charge app store fees. According to a post in a developer forum last week, it is now possible to receive up to 25 percent more Robux when purchasing through gift cards, on a computer, or online.
For example, users who buy $9.99 worth of Robux using a gift card, computer, or online will receive 800 Robux, but they will now also get an additional 200 Robux, totaling 1,000 Robux to spend on passes, in-game items, and avatar objects. Thus, those who purchase a $10 gift card could receive up to 1,000 Robux, whereas previously they would have only received 800.
Roblox's Robux purchase page also reflects the increased amount of Robux available when buying through a computer or the web. The company clarified that this is not a temporary holiday promotion, as it plans to maintain this new pricing globally beyond the holiday season. Additionally, if you redeem a gift card on a computer or web that you purchased before the announcement of the change, you will also receive the higher amount of Robux.
As for why this new pricing structure only applies to purchases made with gift cards, computers, and online, Roblox provided a vague response in its FAQ section. It seems the company's intention is to encourage users to buy Robux through these channels to avoid the fees charged by app stores and consoles. This is not the first time a company has implemented a similar strategy; for example, YouTube Premium costs more if subscribed to through the iOS app.
Additionally, Roblox introduced a new party tool today that will make it easier for users to enjoy and communicate on the platform. Up to six people will be allowed in a party, although initially only text chat will be supported, while voice chat functionality will be available in the coming months.
