Ram claims that its new midsize truck will deliver a 'surprise'
Ram has announced that it is developing a smaller truck and promises that this new model will surprise.
The Ram brand, belonging to Stellantis, has been generating excitement around the launch of a new, smaller truck than the Ram 1500. While it has been confirmed that the model is in development, details have been offered sparingly to maintain suspense. Chris Feuell, CEO of Ram, mentioned in an interview that the vehicle "will be brought to market" and that a platform has been chosen for its construction, promising that the choice will surprise consumers.
Feuell emphasized that this new truck will combine "performance and affordability," without focusing on a niche market. Additionally, he provided an important hint by indicating that the model will feature a variety of powertrain options, as Ram's STLA platforms are designed to allow flexible production that includes internal combustion engines, hybrids, and fully electric vehicles.
However, it has also been pointed out that Ram may be facing challenges in providing more concrete information due to ongoing negotiations between Stellantis and the United Auto Workers Union. Since January 2023, these negotiations have focused on the reopening of the assembly plant in Belvidere, Illinois, which is expected to be operational again by 2027. Regarding the truck's name, Feuell acknowledged that the Dakota nameplate is being considered, although no final decision has been made about it. It is worth noting that Chrysler discontinued the Dodge Dakota in 2011.
Considering all these clues, it seems likely that the new truck will offer hybrid and electric options. However, if it turns out to be an electric vehicle, it would not be such a surprising announcement, as the RAM 1500 REV, touted as the brand's first electric truck, has already garnered attention.
On another note, the launch of the electric Ram 1500 REV has been postponed to early 2025, but it is anticipated to become one of the most desirable electric trucks thanks to its reputation and high-end specifications.
