ProtonVPN has launched a revamped version of its application for Windows, aiming to make it easier for users to explore new features.
Proton VPN has introduced a new application for Windows, featuring an aesthetic redesign and a simplified experience for its users. Although VPNs have become common tools, they are still complex for many, leading users to overlook options they are not familiar with. With this update, Proton aims to encourage its users to explore advanced features such as the Kill Switch, port forwarding, and split tunneling.
The Kill Switch immediately blocks network traffic if the connection to the VPN is lost, preventing temporary exposure of the IP address. Port forwarding allows users to securely connect to their home network from a different location or share access with others. Meanwhile, split tunneling offers the option to select which applications use the VPN and which do not. These are just a few of the more than 30 features available to Proton subscribers, demonstrating the diversity of options, although it can be overwhelming for some users.
Additionally, the new application includes a light mode, allowing users to adjust its appearance to match the rest of their PC design. For those who are not yet using a VPN, there are several highlighted benefits: ad-blocking capabilities that eliminate annoying ads and protect against trackers and malware, private browsing by hiding the IP address and encrypting sent and received information, improvements in VPN speed for a smooth browsing experience, and the ability to bypass government restrictions to access the internet freely.
Aside from the new Windows application, Proton VPN is implementing widgets in its mobile applications to facilitate access to recent or pinned connections with a single touch, eliminating the need to open the app. This is useful for reminding users to activate the VPN before browsing, something that is often forgotten. As for the iOS app, it has also received an update to its homepage to improve the speed and ease of access to favorite connections.
