Playdate will have a second season of games in 2025.
A pleasant Halloween surprise.
The initial launch of the Playdate brought an interesting appeal: a "season" featuring 24 games developed by prominent figures like Keita Takahashi and Zach Gage. Recently, Panic announced plans to launch a second season sometime in 2025.
So far, information about this new season is limited. The company has confirmed that more details regarding the price, the exact number of games, and the involved developers will be provided in 2025. However, during a live stream, they mentioned that it will likely include "around a dozen games" and there will be a "very interesting surprise."
Last year, Panic launched a store called Catalog, which allows developers to release games outside of the seasonal structure. During today's presentation, it was revealed that the store already features over 200 games available. Some in-development titles were also showcased, such as the charming word game Bwirds (set to launch on November 26), a hook-driven platformer called Owlet’s Embrace (expected later in 2025), the cozy puzzle adventure Comet (coming soon), and the self-explanatory Office Chair Curling (also coming soon).
Additionally, there is good news on the hardware front: Panic announced that the scarce handheld console is available for pre-order now, with an expected shipping date in December.
