Pinwheel launches a child-friendly clone of the Apple Watch Ultra at a price of $160.

Imagine a smartwatch for kids with a design similar to the Apple Watch Ultra. What if it also featured artificial intelligence? That's the concept behind the new Pinwheel smartwatch.

Pinwheel has introduced a smartwatch designed for children, priced at $160, offering parents a more affordable alternative to the Apple Watch Ultra. This company, known for marketing smartphones that allow children to learn to use them responsibly under parental supervision, revealed the new device at Pepcom during CES 2025.

The children's watch functions as an independent device, allowing kids to make calls, send texts, play pre-installed games (like a Tetris-style puzzle), and communicate with a friendly chatbot known as PinwheelGPT. This chatbot is designed to answer children's questions in an age-appropriate manner, avoiding inappropriate topics and encouraging them to talk to an adult in case of sensitive inquiries.

This watch includes robust parental control features. Parents can remotely supervise messages and call history, disable certain features for specific contacts, and use GPS tracking to keep track of their child's location through notifications that alert them when they arrive at or leave pre-set locations. Furthermore, they have the option to review every contact their child adds to the contact list until they turn 14, and they can monitor conversations held with PinwheelGPT, even if they have been deleted.

The device also features a side camera for children to make video calls with friends and family, although Pinwheel has stated that this functionality will not be available until later in the year. The Pinwheel watch can be purchased for $160, with an additional monthly cost of $15 for a mobile plan.
